Status Updates From Vida de un esclavo americano

I skipped the related documents pages cause I wanted to get straight to the story, and the introduction did say the documents could be read either before or after finishing the narrative. But already loving this I’ve never really read much on the topic of slavery much less any personal experiences so I’m really looking forward to it.

Reading with my juniors

I was now getting 1.50 dollars per day. I contracted for & earned it; it was rightfully my own; yet, upon returning each night, I was compelled to deliver that money to Master Hugh. & why? Not because he earned it, nor because he possessed the slightest shadow of a right to it; but solely because he had the power to compel me to give it up.
