"...The animalskin cape was a bridge too far. They saw the sketches. They say you’d have the animal rights activists down on us like a swarm of hornets.”
“That’s ridiculous,” said Felix. “Those aren’t real animals, they’re children’s toys!”
“As you must realize,” said Tony with condescending patience, “that isn’t the point. They look like animals."

Atwood introducing an undercurrent of Indigenous land ownership besides the backdrop of Incarceration within an interpolation of the Tempest and Shakespeare's Caliban. Perfect, no notes and incredibly intelligent.
i pray this goes into deep critique or commentary and doesn't just drop off.

I actually started this like 2 days ago but forgot to put it on, but I have to read this for school so here we are. I love Margaret Atwood’s writing and I feel like the story is really interesting but the annotating and stuff is really killing me like I just don’t want tooooo

03/01/26:
honestly had a good reading flow until i was summoned outta my room.
not too bad for this author since i’ve only read the handmaids tale and that wasn’t my cup of tea but margaret might redeem herself

Absolutely thumbs up, very curious to see how it plays out. Have a better idea of what The Tempest if actually about, but still pretty foggy. Love that I’m learning about it while reading this story though!

It’s good so far, funny for sure. Protagonist’s melodrama is fantastic.

it was so boring honestly. i kept hoping for some tragic ending or closure but it never came. i honestly didn’t really like the plot at all either. maybe it’s because i never read the tempest but regardless of that the second half of the book just wasn’t great. the grief journey was unsatisfying and i never really felt like felix changed. anyways that’s my take because my professor loved it.

This is the only Margaret Atwood I’ve read other than Handmaid’s and idk why I didn’t start reading her other books earlier. This is good

it’s okay. i love that this novel feels like a novel. it’s a lot of shakespeare and im not about it all the time. better than BNW but it’s whatever. for the class its a solid book.
