Very interesting book, but very hard to plow through. This is really a diplomatic history, a political history, with scant attention to the endless wars that roiled the Empire, day-to-day life, what it was like living through those times. Reads like something you would have to read in college. That being said, it really does go a long way towards explaining the Mideast and fractured world we live in.
