Horrible.

Every line in this book is so intentional… It isn’t a very long book, but every word is crucial to the story telling. I don’t feel like there is any wasted space. Even the “rambling” that occurs each chapter is so critical to the story as a whole. I truly hope poor Jess and Ben and even Grandpa Jimmy can have a happy ending… but I know better.

It’s freakin’ Mark!!! NT… I do not like these people one bit… The Sheriff better put in work because these people need to go down. I hope Jess finds his voice because damn he needs to for Stump’s sake!

My dad just finished this book and insisted that I read it as my next… possibly his new favorite book. I took an American Christianities class in college and became fascinated by the snake wielding, poison drinking, tongue speaking preachers. Mostly scared of them. Because we believe in the same God? I believe they turn to a different part of the Bible… but still!

Very engaging so far... well drawn characters.

Just started and someone already died from a snakebite and there’s a crazy reverend. Southern Gothic, sign me up fam
