Halcyon Day as a double barrel last name is crazy. Ace Attorney type crap.

The very first page had eerie parallels to my own recent trip to San Francisco (where I got my copy!) The main character took an 8 day vacation to San Francisco and had a coffee on Buena Vista on the 5th day. I took an 8 days vacation to the city and had a coffee on Buena Vista on the first day.

Re-reading so I can read the rest of the series!

I am so obsessed with this, I love his writing style, it is so character and setting driven, and I adore it

I am loving this so far, the fact that it’s based in sf is a huge plus, but the writing style is so funny and witty, even though this was written 40 years ago I feel like it’s still current

She was wearing orange slacks that could have protected a road crew at night. (screams '70's) Fast, short chapters. Details with details. Feels like a sit-com of very human, slightly quirky people (aren't we all) that have 60's level free spirit.

easy reading

Dripping with 70's vernacular and references. Published in '78 so to be expected. Does not sound pretentious though - just 'current', for its classic release date. San Francisco setting/characters feel normal, not stereotyped.

This book relies heavily on its humour for characterisation… but I don’t get any of the jokes given its set in the 70s in America and was wrote in the 90s

"where are we boogying?" "you're making like a hootie owl" and other bangers await

200 pages in four days is a good sign, right

Loving this so far.

My love and I are literally laughing out loud in bed reading this together. Definitely having to just accept some phrases we will never understand, but it’s so fun.
