I liked the quote by D.H. Lawrence "If you try to nail anything down in the novel you either kill the novel, or the novel gets up and walks away with the nail."

I found this book for a buck at the Bartow Library book sale. It is one that so far is very engaging. I like his voice. and how he looks at books and the novel especially.

The author John Sutherland often uses the phrase "More of this later", to defer in the elaboration of his points to readers, which I sorta doubt. It's getting quite annoying, frankly...
