Inner doll represents the empathy most mammals have, the instinct to respond when someone is hurt.
Middle doll represents thinking about how others feel and trying to understand.
Outer doll represents the ability to act on behalf of someone else (we see their hurt, think about how they must feel, and then do something to help them).
