perhaps the original LA POS interacts with the americana world that lives quietly outside of the valley in a, for lack of better words, a truly captivating way that i’ve never interacted with before. literally hanging onto her every word as she paints a picture of someone with a soul living in such a scrutinized “soul-less” place - or perhaps that was just the LA of the past that has now lost its charm.

Så langt forsterker denne boka en slags sosial klaustrofobi hos meg, eller kanskje er det mer en sånn ikke-god-nok følelse. Jeg leser den på besøk i Amsterdam, hvor det virker som absolutt alle rundt meg er glade og opptatte og rusa og sosiale hele tida. Og er opptatt av å leve mest mulig hele tida. Får meg til å tenke at jeg kanskje prøver å leve mindre, ta det mer med ro enn andre. Og at det ikke er bra?

Sirocco and Rain are my favorite two chapter so far. Babitz writes the Santa Ana winds and the rain with a magic that feels almost like urban fantasy / magical realism. Feels like reading a cool party girl’s diary
