Status Updates From The Golden Unicorn

I hate that the house is called "The Shingles" like the horrible virus? My husband got the shingles in his early 30s and it was horrendous. Also fun fact, the original cover painting is for sale on eBay if you like unicorns and have several hundred dollars lying around that you were trying to figure out what to do with.

I have this cover, but with different (and better) font. On page 26 of my copy, a previous reader circled the word "lugubrious" and then wrote "dejected" next to it to define it.

It’s ok to fall in love with a married man, as long as his wife is a psycho. Right? I mean, even if she’s probably your long lost cousin, she’s also probably trying to kill you. He’s obviously your soul mate. Who cares you just met him a couple days ago?

Gothic romances. Gotta love the melodrama.

I keep getting a vague sense that I have read something very similar. Either Ms Whitney recycled plot elements or else once you’ve read a few gothics, you’ve pretty much read them all.

The author who recommended it wrote "Water for Elephants" - a wonderful story. This one was a bit stretched.

Re-reading some old favorites I found listed in an omnibus edition, giving it away as I do not reader abridged books...I used the list to pick up some used books by Madeleine Brent, Victoria Holt, etc and am enjoying a trip down memory lane.

These people are a bunch of nuts! And now Courtany, is in love w/Evan.. Really?!!

I found this book on my school's library the other day. I started reading it while I waited for my next class or something like that. I didn't think much of it at first, but now I can't stop asking myself what happens next.
