All the cultural/music/poetry/literature references really make the setting of this story feel real and lived in!

This book is very reminiscent of All Creatures Great & Small, but as the story progresses the characters finally start taking more individual shape and the book hits its stride! If you love James Herriot’s writing, you’re likely to love this book as well, just give it a little time to find its own footing, and appreciate the similarities in the meantime! :)
