I'd like to say I've read enough and that this is now a dnf, but part of me wants to finish it. Mainly because I scoured the Internet for summaries and discussion threads so I understand the plot more, but should I have had to do that just to complete this book?

4/5 A weird story but kinda fun. Like no other book I’ve ever read. Fun. YMMV

Any concerns I had that this would be too cozy/cutesy for my taste were unfounded

I find it hard to believe that this group of seemingly intelligent, resourceful, and well-educated people (even in this fantasy setting) cannot figure out after six weeks how to dress like "normal people" in modern day Virginia. I kind of understand with the one who's with animals all the time and the one who's dead all the time but the rest of them have no excuse, especially not the one smoking weed.

I'm only half sure of what's happening, but it's so far making me think of the Delightful Kids From Down the Lane, and if they had a dark backstory this would be it.

I don't know what the hell is going on in this book.

Well. Moral of that short lived story arc (so far) is leg ogling = death

My initial reservations after the first chapter have been allayed. There’s still open questions about the nature of this world, but it’s not as disorienting as it was in that first chapter. It now sort of reminds me of THE HOUSE IN THE CERULEAN SEA if all the kids were adults who committed depraved acts of violence.

Ugh debating a DNF, overall very interesting and so much going on but it is SO gruesome I have had to skip through because I literally could not listen to parts of this book

I added this to my WTRs almost exactly 2 years ago. I don’t remember why. Possibly a Goodreads Giveaway? Maybe I saw a positive review somewhere? I don’t know. I’ve only read the first chapter but so far it is nigh incomprehensible wtf is going on. I assume it will be clarified as the book progresses, but I don’t find the mystery intriguing so much as annoying.

What the hell is this? I can say this is one of the strangest books I’ve ever read. It was a slow start for me but now that I’m past the halfway point I cannot even fathom what could be left to happen. I can’t wait.
