Status Updates From The Afflictions

If you read the Encyclopaedia from beginning to end, you get the feeling that every affliction known to man is part of a single, infinite progression. Or that every disease is a different facet of one great and terrible malady.

This book owes a huge debt to Calvino’s Invisible Cities, in terms of its structure and tone. But it’s beautifully written and hauntingly illustrated. A gem I’m so glad I stumbled on.

This is a rather obscurely written book that explores neuropsychology and psychiatry in a very interesting manner. It showcase relatable conditions as though they were conditions affliciting humans in some fantasy realm.

L’unico timore che ho, a proposito dell’Aldilà, è che tutte le relazioni tra cose terrene, persone e storie che ho passato la vita a cercare, una volta là mi sembreranno semplici, addio ottura ovvie. Ogni domanda avrà già una risposta. Non avrò più niente da imparare. Questo, per me, non sarebbe certo il Paradiso.
