Not entirely sure why they're doing what they're doing.... but then a lot of this book doesn't fit together or makes sense soooo...

You've got to work hard to follow. This format doesn't do good with all the jumping around.

The Cross novels don't personalize everything as much as the Burke novels do, and they get repetitive, but it is interesting and hard hitting still.

Another audiobook. Different reader than the first two books in the series. Sad because I really liked the other, but this reader is good too. Lot of recapping to start this book. Now onwards!

Short flashback: did Vachss just drop in the "real" (e.g., birth certificate) names of Cross and Ace? If not, I'm totally confused by this two page flashback to a conversation with at least one young kid.

The whole Cross crew is in my hood! Wilson and Broadway el station is straight up identified, and the (now closed) Wooden Nickel makes an uncredited guest appearance! As Buddha says, hard to imagine Princess and Rhino riding the CTA, but if they did, Wilson/Broadway is exactly where they belong!

50 pages in, and already we have a homicidal dog, with excellent manners. Yep, Vachss is in his usual fine form!
