Status Updates From Strange Beauty: Murray Gell...

Going to dnf this w/ 100 pages left because this is has become an increasingly dry and shallow book.

At this point, I’m not planning to read another work by this author again. Obviously there’s contention between physicists and rivals, but adding random anecdotes about competitors that equate to platitudes does not add to the story. It just makes me less interested in what you have to saw in between all the other ideas that you’ve compiled from other sources/people.

The analogies are falling flat for me. A pop-sci history by a physicist might be better because this is also less sensational than Gleick’s writing. So, with both these points being taken into consideration, one ends up with a less engaging and less interesting story. Albeit, a more boring story, this does not mean it is more factual.

Compared to Genius (Gleick, James) More physics oriented and less of a mythic tale, but still a pop-sci book by another NYT writer alum.
