I picked up book one of this series on sale and this free short prequel too. I really like the pilot/engineer/explorer heroine, but I can't say the same about the over-the-top violent hero, who killed several petty criminals ("thugs") in the name of "protecting" a female friend who _told him she didn't want his protection_. I have a sinking feeling he will be our heroine's love interest in the main series. :/
