It was impossible not to get on with Jim, Ted would say, he was so affadaptable, and euphoric to the point, sometimes, of imbecility, perhaps as a result of graduating in Business English and Human Relations in a School of Management run on American lines.

This is the most self-aware character, seemingly unaware she's describing her twin sister.

"We are all middlemen, selling to others something we do not own, something we have not made, something we do not intimately understand, and the profit, though larger of course than that of those who make, is less than it used to be when there were fewer middlemen, except for the bigger middlemen, who then need more middlmen to interpret their middlemanship to other middlemen lower down." Snarky & breezily readable!
