I wish there was a little more background on what these terms meant, not just the history. Bloom describes organizations pushing for housing priced at $7.50 per room or $8 per room - is 'room' a stand-in for 'apartment' here? Or does 'room' mean 'room'? I know taxes where I live used to be based on number of rooms, which is the explanation given for why my house has wonky added-on closets.
