The author tales the reader on a rewarding and engaging trip thru the essays with a focus on connecting the Federalist to our current political culture and arguments. I am getting a new and welcome introduction to some of the lesser known essays and have just finished a reading of #s 38 & 39 exploring key the key concepts of constitutional absolutism and perfection and the nature of our federalism.

Notwithstanding the distinguished authors leftward tilt, his obvious expertise and evenhanded examination of the Papers in the context of our 21st century democracy is a bracing and essential exercise in civic education. I find myself asking myself questions after each chapter about what he writes and it’s relevance to our world. You can’t ask for more from a writer.
