(of The Tiger in the Well) So I had invented a character to insert into this series and my mental efforts to do so seemed to drain my enjoyment of the book, but now that I have chosen to have her temporarily absent, it is much easier to get through this, the largest installment in the series.

The Shadow in the North (Book 2) - my progress on this book has admittedly been a little slow as I have been preoccupied with my new Nintendo Switch of an evening, and I'm sadly losing interest (though that may be because I'm still insisting on imagining a new character into it...that may have to stop)

(of The Ruby in the Smoke) The action in this series is so thrilling! The time period and setting just make it that much more potent. And the characters, of course, simply endear themselves to you, whether you're supposed to hate or love them!

The second book is finished and I think as Sally grows up the language of the book matured a bit. I like how Pullman touches on sexism and other political struggles. On to the third...

Always a pleasure to revisit this series. The characters are so alive!

Book 1 - The Ruby in the Smoke - this is a series I haven't read in years. I grew to love the characters (as I have with all of Pullman's books) and decided now was a good time to get reacquainted.
