I was amused by a bit where one Viking-ish character talks about his "thought cage" - a phrase used A LOT in Gwynne's previous series, and one think that drew some flack. Anyway, two warriors who hear the phrase and question it then call it "stupid" and opine that it could quickly become irritating. Which I thought was some fine meta-humour :)

All good so far.

Vikings (with a Russan flavour) and monsters - has a lot in common with other Gwynne books I've read, and that's a good thing.

I have already fell in love with Halia’s character. I also know this character was special to write. I can FEEL Halia’s Chapters and almost immediately feel how intimate her character is through Gwynn’s vivid details carried within Gwynn’s prose.
