Chapter 5: National Objectives is a rather thorough and often fascinating delve into the emotional core of morale common to groups. A look at groups through religion, patriotism, nationalism, fatalism, and then specific cultures which interestingly omitted French, American, and Australian, while covering all the other major players of WWII.

Interesting read and turning out to be an excellent source of writing interest. This book, written during World War II, in its examination of morale begins with a thorough examination of fear.

Initially I read this book for the reference Malcom Gladwell made in “Blink,” and the researched he used for his work. However, I’m liking this more and more, and it’s very interesting as to how MacCurdy explains everything.
