Status Updates From Бели нощи

Just read “A Nasty Business” and after finishing it I was a little confused on the ending but I understand the themes that Dostoyevsky was trying to reinforce with the protagonist. Moral vanity was a major one, where the protagonist interrupts his subordinates wedding to seem his equal; however, his underlying self interests were far too evident to fool the guests.

I see a lot of myself in the narrator which makes me very sad for myself. He is constantly in a world in which he has to imagine everything for him to be happy. He is very lonely and misunderstood.
