It's refreshing (in an uneasy way) to see a take where the characters are not glorified, and dip into substance abuse. I hate it, but it is reality. Most books have an imperfectly perfect plot, which we all want. This has a realistic plot. And it sucks. My gut was wrenched every time she laced her weed with something hard. It's still a white washed version of this lifestyle.
