In the last pages I've been reading, it has given me much food for thought in my own struggles regarding how to rightly consider friendship as a gay Christian, but also hope. Hope to unashamedly pursue same-sex friendships, while being open and recognizing where the edge of the cliff lies, that is, where the friendship might edge towards becoming more than friendship and that there are ways of still remaining chaste.

Hill's thoughts on friendship in the first chapter are longings that are many of the same that I have as someone who is also a gay Christian, who has realized that my sexuality is not something to be ashamed of, but also not something to be indulged in. There is a desire for friendship that seems to be nonexistent in our day and age. Friendship ought to be able to be simultaneously intimate and non-erotic.
