Listening to the narrator deliver Peter’s last sermon entirely in the alien language while lost in downtown Nashville with cortisol at 300% was a really special experience that I hope to never repeat. .

Finding that audiobooks take a lot longer when I'm not driving 2 hours everyday.

This first time I read this was in undergrad and I remember it rocking my world. I had shut the book and thought "I don't get it." But then it kept popping up in my head for weeks to come and ended up really settling into me. Listening to the audiobook for the reread and really excited to hear how the narrator will tackle the Oasan language.

"someone at work said to me, 'where is god in all this tragedy following the earthquake?' I didn't rise to the bait. I can never understand why people ask that question. The real question for the bystanders of tragedy is 'where are WE in all of this?' I've always tried to come up with answers to that challenge" -Bea

Interesting so far. This is still the beginning and nothing of significance has really happened yet. Just some building of the settings and some of the characters but very little development in the actual plot so far.

I am really enjoying this but not with some caveats. The female characters aren't written well. The wife jumps from sanity to hysteria and doesn't feel like a real character, but a caricature that helps move the husband's story along.
That being said, when it's good, it's really damn good. Hope the ending feels natural and not rushed. I'll know soon.

I needed something different from what I normally read. This one grabbed me, and though the audio version has some issues (the alien voices have a lot of "mouth noises" and the Asian / Black character voices are done in embarrassing fashion) the story and characters and atmosphere have me pretty tightly gripped. Hopefully it maintains this quality through to the end.

I love the concept! Just wish it was written by a different author. It's like driving along a straight road and having to swerve around potholes. Mentions of 'breasts' and 'erection's that to be honest I am REACHING to try and find the point of. Apart from that, I am very invested.

I’ve finally gotten to that point where I can’t put this book down - terrible timing since I need to go to bed! There’s more time tomorrow.

Not as intensely great as last time but still highly enjoyable! The descriptions feel so real it’s insane

I enjoy this so far but I’m worried that this is Christian Sci Fi and not just Sci Fi featuring a Christian missionary as the main character. Remains to be seen.
