I have learnt to endure.

I love plots like this - I just wish the writing itself wasn’t so dry. There’s line in between dry prose and purple prose, but I fear this is too close to the former, and it’s really taking the emotion out of this for me. This is so well plotted too; my heart feels broken that I’m not just absolutely enthralled by the writing style.

Interesting book. The author narrates the story rather than have it unfold through the eyes of the protagonist. I love the fact that it is set in Zanzibar and Dar - places I have visited recently.

Genial execució d'una història que a primera vista sembla un simple coming of age però que te tantes capes com li vulguis trobar, sobretot la de les traces del colonialisme. La manera amb com l'autor flueix per diferents generacions de personatges, i com desenvolupa cadascun d'ells es brillant. He trobat súper interessant aprendre algunes quotidianitats de Tanzània!

karim and jerry’s character’s so unsurprising and aggravating. such selfishness and self-absorption. was this whole book just a build up to this?
