Status Updates From The Devil in the Marshalsea...

A few upsets to previous assumptions about characters - assuming that the new information is accurate, of course! Looking forward to finding out what's next.

He did not eat or drink, just sat, silently, still clutching the black ledger, bony hands stroking the surface as if it were a purring cat. He leaned forward to catch my response, wintry blue eyes unblinking behind his spectacles.

I had never been so poor in my life, and yet here I was, the very picture of an eligible young gentleman. I would marry myself if I could.

The pace has picked up and the plot has become more interesting. Might stick with it after all.

Thoroughly enjoyable. Great writing and story.

This is taking its time to grab me; so far I'm not enjoying it anywhere near as much as I'd expected to. Let's see if that changes further in.

It's a good, rollicking historical story--accurate on the detail and although none of the characters really establish themselves as much more than cyphers the pace is such that that doesn't really matter.
