Reading. Great story about 2 women in Ireland in the 70s each fighting their own battles with husband, children, rights, etc. flying through it!

I’m surprised by how much I am into this book. The subject matter is not what I’d usually gravitate toward because there’s some triggers for child loss, domestic abuse, abortion, postpartum depression…among others but this story is so compelling. I’m interested to see where else it will go

I can already tell this is going to be a great book. The strength of the women stands out immediately — especially their refusal to walk behind a man instead of beside him as an equal.

The ending of chapter 9 has left me SPEECHLESS. I don’t know why I wasn’t expecting that, but I am full of rage for Maura!!

What a great story! I love the way it was told from different POVs, that it’s historical fiction set in the late 1960s, early 1970s, yet seemed so much longer ago. Excellent character development.

Good for Maura in standing up to her parents. And good riddance to Christy!

It’s getting to the part where the women are going to stand up for contraception. I never thought about how difficult it must have been before it was readily available.

This is a really good book with short, readable chapters, so it’s a quick read. I am also listening to the Audible version so getting through it quickly.

This book is so good, and I didn’t even realize part of it takes place at Christmas time (and I just happened to be reading it right after Christmas).

I was 90% through this compelling, frightening, and eye opening novel set in 1970’s Dublin, when my Libby copy returned itself one morning. I thought I had until the evening to finish it. Now I’m on another 6 week list to finish it.
It is worth every second and minute. This is a stunning and heartfelt novel about a woman secretly leaving her abusive husband with her two young daughters.
