I read Pamela by Richardson years ago, but did re-read some of the letters to remember it better. Shamela, Fielding's sendup of the classic, is a sarcastic rebuke. Luckily there are some notes, but I found not enough for me, to understand it, so right now I am reading the literary notes before plunging in as it seems my initial reading of Shamela (and that just a few pages) was incorrect. I'll only be reading 'Anti-Pamela,' but it's too hot where I'm at for me to bother with the musical chairs of editions right now.

I finally finished 'Anti-Pamela' and the other text, 'Shamela', is short and more superficial, so I do feel a sense of achievement in getting this far.
