'Like seaweed gradually soaking into the brine, I fell asleep again."
This book is written without any care for historical accuracy. The pronoun "I" appears in every second sentence and every sentence is short. Minimal description. Vocabulary lifted carelessly from 2020s - 'products' instead of 'merchandise' for example. Flashbacks to account for things that should actually have been mentioned earlier. Just bad

The writing is very easy to follow, I'm not getting the same metaphorical prose as I did in Melville's (years ago I may be remembering wrong), but im intrigued by the gender-swap and how that will add to the tale
