I don't know-I think plotting an assassination requires a certain rational perspective on your victim that-as this book clearly states- J. Edgar Hoover clearly did not have.

So the FBI's harrassment of King really comes off as inept, stupid and misguided.

It does not seem to occur to Mr. Hanes that Ray, as a racist criminal (albeit apparently not pathologically so for the 60s) could simply have been lying his ass off.

Like, yeah, they (the white segregationists of Atlanta) racist, but it's SO PETTY!
No sensible person can get mad at black people for not wanting to be disrespected by the people they are paying to drive them around!

So far, this book has taught me that yes, rabid racists have ALWAYS been that petty.
They will bomb houses, spread disturbing leaflets all over town, get bogged down in legal proceedings, fire black workers, demand cabs upcharge their passengers...all because black people decided they don't want to pay for the privilege of experiencing racism on the bus.

I absolutely love this book so much!! It has all the details about his life that i did not know about him and his death. Did you know that he died before he hit the ground from a huge gunshot wound to the jaw. It saddens me that i can't meet one f the people who helped black rights i wish i could though..
