A novel of juxtapositions: fear and excitement, cutrness and violence, grief and joy, riotous freedom and inescapable doom. At the heart of it all, a little girl with gunslinger eyes, candy coloured hair, an emotional support teddy bear who gets braver and more excited by the day and the unspoken, undoubtable, unbreakabe love between the girl and her marked-for-death outlaw father. Fresh, real, engaging, disturbing.

This sits outside the conventions of ‘outlaw’ books I’ve read. Having a child as one of the central characters changes everything. It raises the stakes on the choices and makes the options more disturbing. I want to root for the girl’s survival but the cost of that survival seems to be mounting with every page.
I like that the violence feels real but it’s obsevered with as little judgenent as if it were weather.

Ok so the last chapters were so fast paced my neck almost got snapped by the twist. Such a bittersweet ending.well, polly’s mom didn’t lie when she said she had Gunfighter eyes. Easily a 5 star read

Tbh this book has me confused yet interested I’ll defo give it a re-read but so far so ok I’d say, the fact the kid scares her dad who did time is funny lmaooo. I just hope all goes well but we’ll see

I hate that I’m like “aw father and daughter are spending time together…while he’s teaching her about prison gang hierarchies.”

Good quick read so far. I can’t wait to see how this all comes together.

I love how cinematic this book is but also you have silly lines like “to her right came in a badass.”

It’s a little too much telling but I love modern Westerns akin to Logan and No Country for Old Men with a hint of The Professional but it’s also giving The Last of Us and Breaking Bad vibes

This was a great read! Very intense! Daddy daughter story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. My favorite part of was the bear 🫶🏼
