I had been really excited to read this -- and maybe I would have found it really revelatory if I had read it when it first came out (in 2014, which is now 8 years ago)? But I'm about a third of the way through the book and nothing feels particularly novel to me.

Every essay in this book has deeply spoken to me on an emotional and intellectual level. I am so glad I took a break from my usual graphic novels to read this. It's very validating to hear someone else's thoughts on race and queerness in America in such a well explained and considerate manner. While I can't say I agree with everything written here I can say that each essay is thought provoking even after so long.
