I will say in the past I have rolled my eyes at the language of virtue. But when explained well teaching on virtue and vice would be helpful I believe. I found each chapter inspiring and convicting. I especially appreciated her point that it isn’t a checklist or way to earn favor with God but a path to walk along through life.

It’s a timely read for Lent and a good companion book to “Lent with Evelyn Underhill.”
I appreciate Hamman’s sense of humor and self-reflection when writing about difficult topics. Her ability to make medieval texts approachable and joyful is refreshing—I don’t sense any tone of superiority.
