It's like there are small bits where I say "wow! exactly" (mostly the "don't have kids so soon" comments) but for the most part, wow, Helen, you are a misogynist. You can't call this 2nd wave feminism when Betty Friedan was writing at the same time and discussing much more important issues regarding women.

Brown has a definite "head in the clouds" style. I'm sure she wrote good articles, but for a book, I feel like I'm choking on cotton candy.

It got a little too specific to a 1960s/1970s woman, suggesting how to dress and what dishes to make for a dinner party. I had to put the book down. I may find some spare time later to see if any of the 30% of the rest of the book has good info, because the first quarter was gold.

This book is fantastic. The insights in here are great! Good strategy, fun stories, and the author makes it seem so simple to follow in her path.

Outdated to the point of being either unintentionally hilarious OR highly offensive. Her section on “spotting homosexuals” has a cringe factor of 11.

I gave this book a try as it’s a “classic” and was free on Kindle. Can’t finish it— I know it’s from a different era, but this book should really be renamed “Homophobia and the Husband Hunt.”

Reading this for historical reasons. I can see why some people say the 60’s were the beginning of the decline.

I could never bring myself to marry just to get married.
If I had, I would have missed a great deal of misery along the way, no doubt, but also a great deal of fun.
I think marriage is insurance for the worst years of your life.
During your best years, you don’t need a husband. You do need a man of course every step of the way, and they are often cheaper emotionally and a lot more fun by the dozen.

Although there are a few very dated references in here(girdles and the Baltimore Colts, who are now the Baltimore Ravens) this is a very entertaining book so far
