Rota's recollection about his friendship with Ulam is very touching and, imo, unexpectedly sentimental for a mathematician 🥹

Apparently this is where my "obsession" with André Weil has led me to 🙃

Now I'm interested in biographies about/by mathematicians, even though I don't know anything about math, especially not at such high level. And unfortunately for me, Weil is not often talked about in most of those books. But I'm still enjoying Indiscrete Thoughts a lot! Rota is quite funny and isn't afraid of pulling any punches.

I know this is old, but are philosophers 'bewitched' by the success of mathematics? Because it sounds a bit like a stretch.
