The narrative finally looks up. What a wild ride. I'm so excited for the final chapter and epilogue of this delicious hybrid memoir.

Damatac warned in her author’s note that chapters 4–5 were rough, and she wasn’t kidding. She also noted the story gets better from here. I look forward to reading.

Sincerely enjoying Damatac's blend of myth, Filipino history, family history, and recipes, all the way down to how different eras of colonization influenced the changes in traditional Filipino recipes. Per Damatac's author's note, the narrative is about to take a very dark turn. I am prepared to be hurt.

My friend M. recommended this book to me as one of the most striking, unique memoirs she'd ever read, a bricolage-adjacent inspiration to her as she writes her own memoir. Reading it now, I see her wisdom in recommending this book. I'm only 20% of the way in, but I've already fallen in love with Damatac's explorations of Filipino family, food, myth, history, and culture. A perfect blend, with recipes to boot!

Mali-mali yung kahulugang binibigay niya sa Filipino words? Kapatid from the root word patid meaning to trip? Kasamahan meaning to be with? What?
