I couldn't finish this one, and it kills me because it was recommended by someone who's opinions I value. Written in 1958 by Ray Ginger, an academic and historian with a curious history of his own. The subject is a the city of Chicago and a generation of reformers, politicians and millionaires, the two generations after Lincoln. I really wanted to gain insight into the history and character of my favorite city.
