This is basically Theranos 2.0, except instead of the fraud affecting a small number of people who got inconsistent blood results and some rich investors who lost money, the academic fraud described here has led to billions of dollars being used to develop ineffective therapeutics on a fraudulently supported hypothesis and the loss of a decade of research opportunity into alternatives. Horrific.
