You get used to it never being easier

Chapter 22 is pretty interesting, too. She's reading about the war now and is very aware that she is now more affected by 1 or 2 soldiers dying than the hundreds of Afghan people they're killing in the war.

This chapter (21) really upped my interest... the army psychologist talking about their husbands' psychology; that division looks for low empathy (sociopathic) people... socially skilled introverts.

“I knew, somehow, from the beginning, that our relationship wouldn’t be one to just run its course. This fact had intimidated me at first, but once I’d summoned the courage to commit, being with Andrew had been like building a home from cedar and cement. Time wouldn’t tear it down. You’d need heavy equipment, a fire fed with kerosene. You’d need violence.”

I am struggling with this book. Do not know if I can finish it. Not captivating one bit. Nothing to hold your interest. I’m not even half way through and it’s a struggle.

DNF. I will start with the fact that I appreciate her taking the time to give her perspective. Military life is NOT for everyone and I think more wives feel how she felt, however, that is frowned upon so I also can understand the backlash from military wives reviewing the book.

Every time I listen to a Memoir I want to read nothing but Memoirs. This one is so good so far!

Reminds me of Army Wives but not as exciting

The story is now exploring the psyche and troubles Simone faces as she aims to combat her loneliness and isolation through occupied herself.

Good. I have definitely cried already because I relate to being a military wife. It’s interested to see the perspective of someone that grew up in a household that didn’t really support military or guns.

Interesting nonfiction. It’s providing me an insight into what it’s like to have your life revolve around your spouse being the military. I found Simone’s family account to be very compelling in that she did a good job showing the positive and negative aspects of her family. Although we have different worldviews, it can still be insightful to her what she has to say.

The couple weeks before break have left me barely with any time to listen to audiobooks! Hoping to finish this before the end of the year 🙏🏻

I'm loving getting to hear about military life from a different perspective!! It's so helpful to understand different experiences to be able to relate and connect with others.

3.5 stars, close to 4. A really great modern look into what it means to be an army wife. The author grew up in a liberal town, moved to NYC, and yet she unexpectedly becomes an army wife when her husband decided enlisting was his calling. I cannot believe the absolute strength of these women and their families. The ultimate sacrifice.

This book is too long

Ok she is Judgy but honestly love it - she's like that friend you can gossip with and put the whole world to rights with.

It's really a whole new world. I like Simone though, she is honest but is not afraid to add those magic touches into her writing
