I think I finally figured out why this writing feels more impersonal to me— it’s in present tense. I think that’s what bothers me about the writing and makes it feel a bit less consistent.

I don’t think I’ve ever picked up a Renee Rosen book and didn’t want to finish it as fast as possible while also never wanting it to end

I love this book and love that I am taking my time reading it! I am not sure about doing the reading challenge next year. I feel like it ends up just racing to reach my goal and takes the joy out of simply slowing down and reading my book. You?

To be honest, as of now I am not loving it. The storyline is almost too linear and it hardly delves into the backgrounds of any characters, and when it does, it does not really bring up its relevance or show through the characters in any way. We don’t learn much about what the characters are thinking and most dialogue is skipped through. I am sure it will get better once I get to the middle of the book.

Picked up this diva book at my local bookstore and its safe to say im sucked in😆

I’m so thrilled seeing Barbie’s story unfold. I’m happy things are working out for her so far (as if I don’t already know they do). I’m surprised to find out Ruth’s son, Ken, is gay. It’s not something I ever learned about in all the videos I’ve watched. I hope he gets his happily ever after. But it’s the 60’s so I’m not sure.

I’m having so much fun reading this so far. Getting to learn the history of one of the biggest parts of my life from the pov of her creator is so special. Love it!

Even after things ended with Mattel for Ruth, she continued to make a difference for women. Rather than influencing the younger generation, she turned her skills to women battling the stigma of having a mastectomy.

Prior to reading this book I knew little of the Mattel. The books talks of the challenges for a female business owner who creates a doll to break the current social barriers.
