I was finding this book very touching until the last third. Since then, I have grown convinced that this story is fabricated, as FGM has been illegal in the UK for a long time. The social worker reading online that FGM is perfectly legal around 2015 is utterly ridiculous. Yes, there was little done about it and progress was slow, but there were laws relating to FGM as early as 2005.
