Their increasing freedom shouldn’t be a burden on the family. (Ie you don’t have to pay for their music choices or be forced to listen to it in the car).

They are accountable for actions. If clothing choices get them in trouble at school, that’s on them.

Planned emancipation requires addressing the question up front of “who’s in charge of this?”

Release of: bedtime, clothes, music, bedroom, friends, school time, curfew. They need to be able to exercise judgment of all things while still living at home.

Give over control, but not influence.

Planned emancipation: when do you consider your child to be an adult? When do they deserve all the rights and privileges of an adult, just like you?

Teenagers need individuation= Autonomy+attachment. It helps them feel some control. They want freedom to make their own choices, but they want that freedom to be given by their parents.
