Amelia B. Edwards' 'The Phantom Coach' - The story changes gears from loneliness & isolation to the supernatural & believing what experiments cannot prove, thus James Murray being the 4th passenger. But I suffer from the same fatal flaw of wanting proof. If she could have said something more about the 4th passenger, I would have believed his claims more easily. But I assume that is not the point of the story, right?

Sir Walter Scott's 'the Tapestried Chamber' - I haven't made my mind what my personal feelings are about his sentences. Need to read more of his to do so. But the climax was a bit let down. Can a reader forgive this let down since it was written sometime most likely, before 1829?

'The world,' he said, 'grows hourly more and more sceptical of all that lies beyond its own narrow radius; and our men of science foster the fatal tendency.' — The Phantom Coach, Amelia B. Edwards
