"I'll have no sympathy with you if you claim you can't do this or that because of your disability" ...some disabilities do make some tasks impossible, or so difficult that it isn't worth it, not to mention the barriers that an ableist society throws at you. Being realistic about how hey, maybe I can't do this any more and that's ok isn't a bad thing.

Still excellent and I really want to read more by this writer.

Charles Lancaster finds the house in poor condition & gets spooked when he meets a young girl.
The following chapters are diary entries written by Dominic just at the start of WW II. Dominic enlists & loses a leg. Returning to his in London parents who dislike imperfections, we find out these are descendants of the House of Lancaster. His parents send him off to Hallinhag to care for his deaf sister Octavia.

This book is off to an excellent start. The first chapter is set in the present day. Charles Lancaster inherits his grandfather Dominic Lancaster's estate including a mysterious house called Hallinhag House in the Lake District of England. His grandfather indicated that the Hallinhag House should be torn down. Not one to be deterred, Charles goes off to view the house. The locals he meets indicate it is a bad place.

PSRC '15: a book set in a different country (England)

Octavia is profoundly deaf but at night she can hear disturbing noises in the house. When questioned by Dominic as to what she can hear, she replies: 'voices'. Two nights later she comes into his bedroom to tell him that the dead children in the house want them to leave

The book is really really good, I don't want to drop it from my hands but life is getting in the way :P

I'm totally hooked, I even dropped the other 2 books for that one, from the first few pages I want to know how it's going to end

Wow! A good old fashioned ghost story mixed with some good old fashioned love, friendship and family.

I'm really liking this book and should have been finished by now, but family health emergency has taken a toll. Aiming for finishing before midnight tonight. ~*Happy New Year & Happy Reading*~

Ooo. A perfect first chapter. Looks like I've found my good Hallowe'en read.

I had to stop reading this earlier (i.e. when it went dark) as it was starting to get a little bit creepy. I'll carry on in the daylight tomorrow!

I'm on holiday at the moment, and I'm quite enjoying reading what I think of as 'holiday' type books :)

This book is starting to be just as good if not better than The Exorcist.
