Status Updates From The Splendour Falls

Loving it so far :-)

Well, FINALLY, after 191 pages there seems to be a plot emerging.

120 pages into this book and I still have no idea what exactly it's supposed to be about. So far, all the main character of the book has done is take a trip to Chinon. After arriving there, she has drank wine, flirted with men, and wandered the streets admiring the scenery. She is dull, dry, and boring. Very two dimensional and unbelievable. Also very disappointed that there is not a duel timeline theme in this novel

Wow...72% into it and its FINALLY holding my interest! I don't think I can recommend this one...

Having a very hard time with the narrator...seems they could have hired someone who didn't sound like she's been smoking for 50 years...

Wonderful so far, my favorite period in french and english history..Chinon castle, Richard the Lionheart, Prince John parents Henry and Eleanor..
Susanna is one of my favorite authors.

Almost finished! This book is incredibly wordy. I think it could have been half as long! She just rambles on and on about inconsequential things! It is NOT historical fiction. And not nearly as romantic as I hope. Very well written though....which is why I keep trudging along.

And underneath the window, as the wind swirled fiercely by, the heavy wooden door creaked further inward on its ancient hinges, beckoning.

This keeps coming up, so I have a question for my international friends. Do Europeans really lump Canadians in with Americans?

And as I crossed to the hotel I felt those silent eyes upon me, watching steadily, as a hunter sights its prey.

I wondered if this was the tunnel Isabelle had passed through, on her way to hide her treasure…

And yet, I thought, there was a tension here… a tension spun from more than my awareness of the man across the table.

The yellow-white ruins of Chinon Castle rose majestically above us like the crumbling scene of some great Shakespearean tragedy, an unbroken sweep of blind wall and decaying towers bleached with age, jaggedly spearing the gray and ever-shifting sky.

This book is so BORING! I don't know if I can finish it!!!

Only 2% thus far has focused on the past and nothing much has happened in the present (not terribly present, almost 20 years ago but ya know...). Rather annoying.

I enjoy the writing style of Susanna Kearsley, it is easy to read, and she has a beautiful ability to pique my interest. This one is not my fav of hers thus far, but I am enjoying it nonetheless.

I should be going to sleep but this is too good!

Aaaaaahhhhhh... I would really like to go to France.

Intriguing plot.. I kinda wish I were the main protagonist- just hanging around sightseeing aimlessly ;)

...she's done it again--got my full attention!

As usual Susannah captures me in a very short time. She is so good at that. Can't wait to see what happens next.
