Have heard good things about this book. Still have a 19th/20th colonialism itch I hope this will scratch. Hoping it's similar to Cormac McCarthy's books!

williams' prose is immaculate, really love his style of writing here. also very funny how completely bereft of intelligence andrews is the second he meets miller, as if the "cool calm collectedness" of the most obvious sadistic con-artist ever has sucked his brain out of his skull

Enjoying how the characters are written especially the feeling of nature or the earth or the landscape being a force a character on its own

I’m realizing Williams has one of my favourite writing styles. Clean, clear, crisp, and yet it is so layered and poetic. Some of the nicest prose. Stoner is an objectively boring book, but it’s one of my favourite books. Butchers Crossing is a much more epic plot. So I have high hopes, and already enjoying it.

Zastanawiam się nad dnfem. Książka jak zwykle klasa, ale opisy strzelania do niczego nieświadomych bizonów są dla mnie wyzwaniem.

Probably unfair to have read this after lonesome dove, but I wasn’t quite ready to move on from westerns. Nevertheless a slow book with familiar tropes that follows buffalo hunters during the last months of the trade.
The last 30 pages were its best.

deliberate, thin on humanity, with a swift uptick of adventure followed by male isolationism at the halfway point

i fear any western i read will pale in comparison to “Lonesome Dove,” and this feels like an abridged version of that, although the writing is very much its own kind of beauty. Williams has an enchanting voice emanating from his writing. i’m trying not to compare the two novels but i find it extremely difficult. the snow has just hit, things should get more interesting now.

Normally sacrilegious to myself to read two books at once but to clarify this one is my true moonlighting brain churner while the Hemingway is my train/work book to stay warmed up and get some reps in.
