I hope the buffalo trample all of them to death. I am filled with such intense violence and hate every time I have to hear 'oh there used to be so many buffalo here we'd kill thousands now you can't find even a few hundred'.
AND WHY DO YOU THINK THAT IS YOU FUCKING DISGRACES TO THE HUMAN RACE?
I hope these men die. I have no empathy for men and their business of death and greed.

Part Three done. What a phenomenally told tragedy of eastern unease seeking western comfort, only to find a holocaust of physical, emotional, and spiritual resolve.

i can’t help but wonder what will andrew’s intentions were in joining miller on his hunt for these buffalo in colorado. as from everything we hear in wills thoughts he views the wilderness as the epitome of freedom, where he is finally able to be free from everything (why he left harvard) and yet now he is on this hunt to murder hundreds of buffalo, something which contradicts his initial desire for the wild

Part Two done. The journey beyond civilization; into the wildness—hunger, thirst, a grueling climb, the valley reveal, the slaughter and skinning, a winter in “caves of skin,” a long descent—all paced to match the action. Williams’s clean, precise descriptions of the vast scenery let the imagination fully feel the heat, dust, cold, and silences strengthened by sound. Williams makes simplicity an immersive experience.

i would’ve lost all faith in Miller ages ago… like the fact everyone held faith in the buffalo he saw 10 years ago. Fred’s lowkey the realest one

Part One done. Will Andrews, chasing a yearning for “wildness” and a chance to be “part and parcel of God, free and uncontained,” impulsively finances a perilous buffalo hunt. Williams’ spare, precise prose already hints Andrews' romantic ideals will collide with the West's realities. Enjoying the characters, quiet ironies (that "Will Andrews" moment!), vivid sensory details, and subtle light/shadow imagery so far.

The part where they're out on the dry plains with no landmark in sight and they run out of their water is insanely good fuck me

I love the descriptions of nature and the story really transports the reader to a different time. It’s hard to imagine what it must have felt like to see mountains for the first time, without even having seen photos for reference. The book also has me thinking about how men are really brought up conditioned that their destiny is adventure, while women are brought up conditioned that theirs is love
