Annabelle is naive:
Explains away pic excuse to mean that he doesn’t like photoshop and women’s pics
Because he sends her pictures of sketches of himself
Thinks he’s a rich man from Transylvania so he can fly over whenever
Thinks his outdated clothes but just likes high-end vintage

Dating the Undead - Oct 29th

First person PoV from Annabelle’s perspective of online convo on dating site between her and Count Dracula

Theme that reoccurs throughout book- vampire and modern technology
Uses dating app - “apologizes that his selfies rarely come out right. He explains that the thing about modern photography is that it has been stunted by the cowardice of credulity.”

“Cooperation is truth enveloped by a stringent sun. But facts forget the night harbours its own dialect. Words withhold her odd dream- surely that was all it was.”
Megan woke up to Annabelle never having come home

Combo of poetic prose and “printouts from chats shiver her full awake, compel her to read these artifacts…..”

“investigators prod her to travel backwards, like storytellers recounting the last time Annabelle has heard from.”

Missing , Classified as Undead

Going backwards in time to tell the story questions for the reader and a sense that they don’t already know the story

Slowly revealing the details of the narrative- now we know
-her name
-her relationship with roommate
-not living a risky lifestyle

Missing ,Classified and Undead occurs the same day as a the previous poem. But earlier in the day.
Told from 3rd person perspective of all seeing narrator

Megan has been making handmade missing person posters
Has been questioned by the police
This gives insight into Megan’s relationship w her roommate and modern take on what would actually happen when vampires turned a human

“She’s obsessed with curiosity and the how and why”

First poem- chronologically these events are the last to occur
The narrator has already been turned into a vampire by Count Dracula and returns to her home and turns her roommate into a vampire.

We find out that the narrator is a missing person and the police have been looking for her and Megan was really concerned about where she was/ went.

“He taught me how to be a ghost part-time.”

Order is chronologically backwards and works to take away our basic assumptions about the story because we all know basic vampire narrative plot

First poem is well written a bit reminiscent of Poe in its narrative structure and style of storytelling
Only without the repetition of specific stanzas

Gives a bit of background about Count Dracula:
Castle
No reflection in mirrors
Born in Romania and inherited 5 castles
Can’t go in sun-only out at night
Strong black wings
Sharp fangs
Drinks bloods and prefers victims be virgin
Hypnotize victims

“Her early childhood memories were filled
with bone-dry men admitting they had come
To slake their thirst, which is unquenchable”

About her being a heiress and unmarried and a new bachelor inherits nearby castle her family thinks he will be the perfect suitor for her
