I have such a love/hate relationship with this book--on the one hand it's super gripping, interesting, and written in short bursts that feel like a bunch of short stories.

On the other hand the way Saxen's attitude especially when it comes to women really grinds my gears. It feels really gross.

The way Saxen talks about romantic partners as a teen and young adult kind of skeeves me out. Like, yes, women are hot and you want to have sex with them, I understand, but if you could stop dwelling on how you tried multiple times to liquor a girl up so you could have sex with her, that’d be great. It comes off as bordering on assault and he talks so casually about it. Same with almost shooting his friend.

Wasn’t really mentally prepared for this book to take a hard left turn into talking at length about Saxen’s weird extremist church but I can already tell how it’s going to play into disordered eating.

bought this book before living in southern california but never finished it (only read the beginning)- as i recall i couldn't stop eating doughnuts around the time of purchasing this book and well- it didn't stop after trying to read a book about one person's life-long struggle with overeating. anyways- i know that the cover of the book did not cause my doughnut addiction at that time so i'm trying to finish it now.
