Would avoiding water and drinking beer & wine really have made the ancient Egyptians low-level intoxicated at all times? I thought these ancient beers had a very low alcohol content?

A general assumption that life in a harem must have been lonely for all the women. But I wonder if all harems were really the political hotbeds and female conniving that they are often portrayed as? What if it were more of a safe, protected, family space? Why can't the speculation go in that direction instead?
